“For every action there is an equal, and opposite reaction.”

Each day is filled with a myriad of choices. We plan and prepare and set ourselves up to make those choices easier and push us along the path to our desired outcomes. But do we think about what the side effects might be?

It’s easy to become hyper focused on our goals, to white knuckle our way to fat loss or some other physical change. But if we don’t address the underlying behaviors that led to our desire for change we may be setting ourselves up for new maladaptive behaviors.

Are you practicing acceptance and awareness and self love in your process? Are you addressing emotions around food and emotion around weight loss?

Losing fat will be a benefit for health and performance and, in many ways, confidence. It’s critically important, however, that we don’t allow the goal of fat loss to overtake our emotional health. We can’t chase fat loss forever and at some point the scale will stop being our reward. Compliments on our weight loss will dry up. And we will be left only with ourselves. If we don’t become comfortable with that person we will never be able to find peace. And in the end, isn’t that what we are here for?
