Beware of the well worn path to nowhere

September 21, 2020
We all know of Robert Frost’s iconic poem The Road Not Taken and for good reason. It’s become a staple in American education and a modern fable. But how many of us heed this sage wisdom?

Let’s talk about what I talk about for a second: nutrition. Look around you and see what people gravitate towards. Is anyone choosing the harder, obstacle filled path? Or do we look for a nicely manicured, well lit road to stroll along?

The rub is, that well lit road likely leads to nowhere. It’s been built on marketing and sales and flashy pictures and maybe even a cool sounding name to help everyone feel like they belong. But it’s been paved and not worn.

The one that we avoid is instead there because those who have traversed it wore it down with the tread of their own feet. They pushed the vines and foliage away. Climbed over felled trees and fallen rock. They weren’t enamored with the easy or shiny or slick; they realized that the obstacles and mess would only make the journey that much more important.

Nothing in life that matters is easy. Changing your life definitely won’t be and anyone who sells you otherwise is lying. So instead of searching for the easy path, try searching for the right one. It’s probably going to be a lot less crowded.
