The secret to my consistency

June 4, 2023

I had a client ask me the secret to how I can go to bed at 10pm and train at 5am while being productive. I told him, “it’s easy”.

I don’t have kids.

Seriously. There’s nothing magical. Yeah getting up sucks and I’m tired and I don’t wanna go. But the training is great and it’s worth it. But I can’t imagine how much harder it is with kids.

When I’m done work for the day, I’m done. I don’t have to keep small ppl alive and entertained. There’s not some small person with boundless energy jumping on me and running around (unless I go to night class @ticktockjj and those pesky lightweight 22 year olds want to laugh at giving an old man a coronary). I can chill. Recharge. Come down from the day’s stressors.

I also own my own business and work from home. I write my schedule. If I want to take a nap I can. So there’s never this fear that I’m not going to be able to make it through the day. I only have to worry about me. @sasajohnston is perfectly capable of taking care of herself.

So when you feel like you just aren’t doing enough because you see others and perceive their lives to be the same, chill. Everyone’s situation is different and most of us that work in fitness have prioritized these things to the point we made a career from it. Don’t compare your life to ours. Especially if you have kids.

And props to everyone out there with kids and full time jobs and hobbies and social lives making time to fitness. I know it ain’t easy but if you can make it happen, even just a little, the payoffs will be so worth it.
