We grow, apart

July 31, 2020
One of the hardest parts of holding on to relationships can be this feeling that we are growing apart. But growing, apart from each other, can actually bring us closer together.

The scariest thing in life for me would be to look back in my life and see that I am in the same place as I was 10, 15, or 20 years ago. To me, stagnation is death. But if we have friends or family or spouses that are also growing, how do we keep from growing apart?

There’s no guarantee that we will all have the same interests or hobbies or creative outlets that we did when we established these important relationships. But our core values rarely change. And that’s at the essence of who we are as human beings. Our passion for equality or learning or bringing people together is what shines through regardless of the activities we engage in. Those values forever shine through.

So while the fear of growing apart is real it doesn’t need to be. Love transcends all and we love because of what we see in others that lies deep below, not because of the things we do. So don’t be afraid of growing. Embrace our growth. Love is the tie that binds. And while we may grow, apart, we will never grow apart.
