I want a goose that lays golden eggs now

July 14, 2020
As Americans, we have become accustomed to getting things quickly. From a steak dinner at your door in 30 minutes to a big screen tv within the afternoon. We think we can trade dollars for anything. But fitness isn’t Amazon.

In reality, we need to set expectations for our fat loss or muscle gain or performance goals. They will take time. They will take work. They will take failures. It’s all part of growth.

The process is what changes us, not the outcome. The value of a black belt in Jiu jitsu is that it takes on average 10 years to achieve. The black belt itself is worth $10. It’s a symbol. But the work I put in each day; the failures and aches and pains and injuries are what I grow from. Not some arbitrary belt. And so I continue to pursue that goal, not for the outcome but for the lessons along the way.

Nothing worth having comes fast. If we set up arbitrary timelines we are setting up excuses to quit. Learn to embrace change through consistent effort over time. And stop trying to buy your results. There’s no goose that lays golden eggs. Even if your favorite influencer is trying to sell you one.
