You are not your relationship with food

At the heart of my coaching practice, the focus is really about relationships. Relationships with ourselves and others and food/exercise. Yet these relationships needn’t define us.

So often I hear from clients about their struggles with food. I mean, that is my job after all. They will often say things like “I’m addicted to sugar” or “I’m never going to be able to stop eating when I’m full”. While these feelings can be overwhelming, they needn’t be a lifetime sentence.

Our self talk is important. This comes down to relationships with self. Telling ourselves that we are destined to be trapped in a pattern of struggle is a self fulfilling prophecy. We quickly become the product of our internal monologue.

Redefine your relationships. If they need to change, that is on you. Whether it be “friends” who are unsupportive, food choice that leaves you feeling anxious or depressed, or self talk that drags you down, you can change. But you’ll have to have that hard conversation.
