If nothing changes…

October 26, 2020

I oft say awareness is the biggest step towards change but that’s not always true. Sometimes awareness is just that. While I believe it is a powerful tool for the vast majority, just knowing you are overeating might not change a damn thing. Many times, your biggest obstacle is you.

We as humans are master rationalizes.

“I deserve this, it’s been a tough week.”

“What difference does one more bite/drink/dessert really make?”

“I’m gonna work out tomorrow.”

We will ask questions of others ad nauseum rather than work to apply what we know. We will focus on meaningless minutiae rather than talking the elephant in the room. We will buy another book or read another blog or listen to another podcast rather than apply what we know. And we get caught in a labyrinth of shame and failure with no escape in sight. All while holding a chainsaw that can cut through the middle.

The unfortunate truth is that nothing matters, not your desire or dreams or motivation, if nothing actually changes. If you continue to trudge down the same road looking for new destinations you will continue walking in perpetuity. Stop wandering aimlessly and start doing things differently. And change will come.
