Nailing the basics?

April 3, 2023

Weighing & measuring food is not basic. If you’ve continually struggled with results using these strategies look at everything else. How’s your: ·Sleep? ·Workouts? ·Steps? • Meal consistency? • Meal composition? Get the basics straight before you add complexity.

Most people don’t need more complexity. I rarely have clients come to me and say they would be better if only they had more kids’ practices to attend, a few extra meetings and a couple work trips on topof their already busy schedules.

Yet many ppl will want to jump to the most time intensive and complex dietary strategy when their life is already overwhelming.

If you aren’t sleeping, regularly working out, managing stress, developing relationships and moving throughout the day all a complex dietary strategy does it set you up for failure.

Less energy to perform in a state where you’re already using less energy? Not a great tactic. Instead, start working on getting all of these other things in order. Eat balanced meals of lean protein, lots of vegetables and some fruits or grains. Reduce or eliminate snacking between meals. Avoid sweetened beverages (not for any reason other than the additive calories and lack of satiety make weight maintenance difficult).

Once you have everything in order, then look to where you can add complexity. The basics work. For a long time. No need to rush it.
