Stress as a Teacher: Listening to Your Body’s Messages

What if I told you stress isn’t the enemy?

Most of us think of stress as something to fight against or escape. But stress is also your body’s way of sending a message—a signal that something needs your attention.

Instead of trying to push through or numb out, what if you could pause and ask: What is my body trying to tell me?

Sometimes stress is a reminder to slow down. Other times, it’s pointing to something deeper: a need for connection, rest, or even a sense of purpose.

Here’s a simple exercise:

• The next time you feel stress rising, pause.

• Place a hand on your chest or your belly and take three deep breaths.

• Then, ask yourself: What do I need right now?

The answer might surprise you. It could be a nap, a walk, or even just five minutes of stillness.

Stress isn’t here to sabotage you. It’s here to teach you. When you learn to listen, it becomes less of a burden and more of a guide.
