The new normal isn’t new

March 21, 2020

Today is another day of the unknown. Another day in an unprecedented change in our world. But even as things seem so unpredictable this morning, were they ever?

We live our lives under the guise of control. But we cannot predict the future. We can not control tomorrow. That much has become painfully clear. What made us believe that we could just a few weeks ago.

This pandemic can open our eyes to the reality of the universe. In the grand scheme of things we are small, insignificant. But within our own universe we are grand and infinitely important. To the people we touch our influence is exponential. Which is why we must be present.

In the grand universe tomorrow has always been an unknown. It’s useless to try to live in the future. It’s useless to predict and create stories and forecast. What we think should happen isn’t reality. So focus on today. Focus on the present. Focus on now.

Prepare. Plan. But don’t predict. Don’t miss out on the grandiosity of life by living in a fantasy or fiction of a future that doesn’t exist. Be here. Accept reality as it is and not how it should be. And feel the freedom of seeing the world as it is and not how we wish it was.
