What is your plan?

January 22, 2021
When we fail to plan we plan to fail. But what about when the plan goes to shit? Because, you know, Murphy and his pesky laws and all.

So what do we do about the unexpected? We set audibles. Like a great quarterback, we want to have contingency plans in place. The biggest source of uncertainty comes from travel and busy weekends. While both have been limited during Covid, they still deviate from week day activities and will likely resume sometime in summer. So we should be ready.

One of my go-to’s is fast food. Wait what? That’s right, fast food. Most places have nutritional facts listed on their websites. That’s more than we can say for even a meal at a friend’s home. They also are consistent. So you know what you are getting will be the same no matter where you are in the country. And almost all places now have some type of healthier options specifically for those looking to limit calories.

So next time you are out and about and worried about your options, look to fast food. Choose ahead of time, don’t trust yourself to make the best choice in the moment, and be open to reject any existing bias you may have about fast food. Is it my first choice? No. But is it sometimes the best choice? Absolutely. Don’t pass up effective for optimal, especially when optimal isn’t an option.
